According to UECC, a provider of sustainable short sea ro-ro transportation in Europe, the operation took place in the port of Sagunto, Spain, and was made possible through the collaborative efforts of UECC, Repsol, ESK and local authorities.

UECC said the delivery, provided by Repsol, marks an important step forward in UECC’s commitment to expanding its geographical scope of LNG operations and promoting environmental sustainability within the maritime industry, and it opens doors to new possibilities, enabling the company to offer greener transportation solutions across a wider range of European routes.

Daniel Gent, Energy and Sustainability Manager for UECC, stated: “We are thrilled to have successfully bunkered LNG for the first time in the Mediterranean, thanks to the excellent collaboration with Repsol and the support of ESK and Sagunto Port Authority. This milestone showcases our commitment to extending the reach of our sustainable operations, reducing emissions and promoting a greener future for the maritime industry.”

Representing Repsol, Eugenia Bertrand, Head of Green Gases and LNG New Uses, added: “This collaboration aligns with our ambition to progress in the energy transition and contribute to the decarbonisation of the maritime sector. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with UECC and supporting their future endeavours in promoting sustainable and efficient maritime transportation.”
