Grandweld Delivers Two Specially Designed Tugboats

Grandweld Shipyards has commemorated the delivery of the two new 55 Tons Bollard Pull Escort Tugboats in a special ceremony held at Khalifa Port on August 6, 2012. The new tugboats are specially designed to assist in marine and Harbour operation at Khalifa Port including escorting & towing, mooring/unmooring, and fire fighting operations.

The vessels are also equipped with state of the art machinery including 4700 BHP medium speed engines, a forward escort winch, and 2xAzimuthing stern propulsion system to achieve 55 ton bollard pull of towing capacity. This will allow the vessels to handle the large vessels and container ships operating at Khalifa Port.

Jamal Abki, General Manager of Grandweld Shipyards commented:

We wish to thank Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) for giving us the opportunity to build their first tugs for Khalifa Port. We at Grandweld understood the requirement of ADPC for high standard and top quality tugs. Therefore, these tugs were built to the most advanced design and fitted with the highest quality equipments that will ensure reliability and mission readiness for heavy duty operations at the Port. We are proud to advise that both, Al Fenci and Al Durrah have successfully passed stringent testing requirements during extensive sea trials that was attended and certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS Class). Both vessels over performed on speed and bollard pull figures, which categorize the capabilities and value of the tugs

In addition to that, the vessels are designed for premium standard of crew comfort (ABS Class “HAB” notation).
