Tsakos Tied to Bulker Order at Yangzijiang

Greek shipowner Tsakos Shipping and Trading, part of Tsakos Group, appears to have decided to bolster its dry bulk fleet with an order for up to four bulkers at Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

The order includes two firm plus two optional bulkers of 82,000 dwt, according to Asiasis.

The shipowner is said to be paying USD 25.5 million for a vessel.

Delivery dates for the two bulkers have not been disclosed.

The order comes anent anticipated recovery of the dry bulk market over the coming period, with a major pick-up in rates expected in 2019 and 2020.

World Maritime News has approached Tsakos for a comment on the matter, however, the company is yet to reply.

The group operates a versatile fleet but is predominantly focused on the tanker market with over 70 tankers.

Based on its website data, Tsakos Group owns seven dry cargo vessels, including three Capesize bulkers and four Panamexes.
