Turbulent tides hit Alderney

The licensing body for Alderney, the Alderney Commission for Renewable Energy (ACRE), has reportedly cancelled the agreement with the developer Alderney Renewable Energy for the advancement of tidal power resources around the island’s waters due to alleged breach of the contract.

SR2000 sails to Hatston Pier for repairs

Scotrenewables Tidal Power (SRTP) will be conducting minor repair works on the export cable of its SR2000 floating tidal turbine. SRTP engaged Orkney-based renewables services provider Green Marine UK to conduct the towing operation using its Green Isle multipurpose vessel.

OERA launches tidal energy innnovation call

The Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA) has launched a new competitive $1.25 million research call. The funding will support new projects that offer innovative and practical technology solutions and novel approaches to resolve fundamental knowledge gaps impacting the tidal energy sector. The competition is open for application until June 19, 2017.

UTM OTEC, DCNS complete Malaysia ocean thermal plant study

DCNS and OTEC Centre of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM OTEC) have wrapped up the pre-feasibility study for the proposed ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) plant off Layang-Layang island in Malaysia. The handing-over ceremony of the pre-feasiblity study was held last week at the UTM OTEC in Kuala Lumpur during the third national workshop on ocean energy, according to the Maritime Institute of Malaysia.

Kymaner turbine hits full power at Mutriku wave plant

Kymaner’s bi-radial air turbine has operated at full power of 30kW on its first day of testing at Mutriku shoreline wave power plant. The turbine was shipped to the plant, located in the Bay of Biscay in Spain, after the conclusion of laboratory testing at IST University in Lisbon for further validation in real-sea conditions.
