Tidal prototype ready for deployment off British Columbia

Business & Finance

Canadian tidal developer, Yourbrook Energy Systems, will launch its tidal power pump prototype tomorrow, August 11, off Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.

The device will be deployed in Juskatla Narrows where it will undergo real sea testing, the company informed on social media.

The project has been financed by Yourbrook and the Canadian National Research Council’s IRAP programme which provided C$280,000, with the additional funding support expected to come from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, according to the local television station CFTK-TV.

President of Yourbrook Energy Systems Clyde Greenough said for CFTK-TV that the project has the potential to replace the 10 million liters of diesel fuel burnt every year to generate power for the Haida Gwaii, as well as to create a number of jobs during the construction and operation of the project.

After the prototype testing in Juskatla Narrows, the company intends to build a full scale demonstration device.
