Thun Tankers takes delivery of eco-friendly Thun Reliance

Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers, part of the Erik Thun Group, has taken delivery of the second in a series of six new eco R-class tankers, Thun Reliance.

As informed, the vessel has an “industry-first innovative design” with adaptive propulsion to minimize energy usage, ready-for-shore electricity connection, a battery pack, the latest hull design and the newest and most resource-efficient machinery. 

It was floated out at Ferus Smit Shipyard in Leer, Germany on May 3, 2024. The company also hosted a naming ceremony for the tanker

The vessel will enter into long-term employment with Preem, a Swedish petroleum and biofuel company.

The tanker Thun Reliance will be technically managed by MF Shipping Group.

”We are very pleased to deliver this brand new and state of the art vessel to Preem. We are convinced that the Thun Reliance will help Preem grow their business while reducing emissions in their supply chain,” said Joakim Lund, CCO at Thun Tankers BV.

The newly ordered vessels are part of Thun Tankers’ fleet renewal program to reduce the climate footprint and meet future demands.

In February this year, Thun Tankers welcomed its first eco Resource efficient-class (R-class) tankers, Thun Resource.
