The ship-to-ship cargo operation between Teekay’s LNG carrier Magellan Spirit and Excelerate Energy’s Excellence continues offshore Nigeria.

An attempt at refloating is not expected before 23 January, Teekay LNG’s spokesman Jonathan Anthony said in an e-mailed statement to LNG World News.

The ship-to-ship operation started on Tuesday in order to lighten the Magellan Spirit after salvage attempts have failed.

Teekay’s 165,500 cbm Magellan Spirit ran aground on January 5, fully loaded with a cargo from Nigeria’s Bonny LNG plant.

Excelerate Energy’s 138,000 cbm Excellence LNG carrier has the capacity to take 80% of Magellan Spirit’s cargo.

The LNG carrier, chartered by Swiss company Vitol, was on its way to Gwangyang LNG terminal in South Korea.
