Technip to Close Offshore Wind Business, 190 People to Lose Jobs

Business & Finance

Technip has decided to shut down its offshore wind division based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, after all undergoing projects are completed.

The company is also leaving the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) project, writes the Press and Journal.

This decision was made according to Technip’s business review, which resulted in the company’s decision to focus on oil and gas industry.

“The offshore wind market is highly capital-intensive and has disparities in adoption across Europe,” the Press and Journal cites the company’s explanation.

The closure of the offshore wind business will affect 74 employees based in Aberdeenshire, 61 offshore workers, 23 staff in Gateshead and 32 contractors.

However, the company said that no final decision will be made before consultation with employee representatives is carried out.
