Taiwanese and US Companies to Work on Disaster-Proof Foundations

Authorities & Government

A group of Taiwanese companies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with three US-based companies involved in certification and development of offshore wind technology as part of the recent visit of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to the United States.

Representatives from Taiwan’s China Steel Corp., Taiwan Wind Turbine Industry Association and CR Classification Society signed the MoU with ABSG Consulting Inc., part of ABS Group, a marine and offshore classification society, Keystone Engineering and Principle Power Inc, according to MOEA.

Keystone Engineering specializes in development of fixed offshore foundations, while Principle Power focuses on developing floating offshore wind foundations, such as their WindFloat concept.

The aim of the MoU is to incorporate the technology developed by Keystone Engineering and Principle Power into the design of earthquake- and typhoon-resistant offshore wind foundations, both fixed and floating, needed for further development of Taiwan’s offshore wind potential.

The visit to the United States and the signing of the MoU was organised by MOEA’s Industrial Development Bureau.

Taiwan’s current set target is to achieve at least 3GW of total installed offshore wind capacity by the year 2025.
