STX Offshore Bags USD 140 Mn Tanker Deal

South Korea’s STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has won an order for four 50,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) midsize tankers as it steps up its efforts to business recovery. 

The order, worth USD 140 million, has been placed by a Greek owner Oceangold Tankers, according to Asiasis.

The newbuild tankers, priced at USD 35 million a piece, are scheduled for delivery in 2019.

The company has ten tankers in its fleet, according to its website data.

Oceangold Tankers has already bought two MR2 newbuilds from the shipbuilder in a en-block transaction dated June 21, paying USD 64 million for the units, also slated for completion in 2019, data from VesselsValue shows.

The latest tanker deal comes on the heels of another contract with Korea’s Woolim Shipping Co. to build two 11,200-DWT tankers, inked on Thursday, Korea’s The Pulse reported.

Earlier this month, the shipbuilder obtained an early release from court receivership from the Seoul Bankruptcy Court amid considerable progress in its economic recovery.

What is more, the shipyard also secured an order for four 11,000 DWT tankers for the first time since the beginning of its restructuring. The order was placed by Woolim Shipping and Sambong Corp in May this year.

The shipbuilder was allowed to pursue business normalization under its creditor banks’ guidance.
