Swedish tanker owner Stena Bulk named its latest chemical and product tanker newbuilding Stena Impero in Guangzhou, China on January 31.

After its delivery on February 7, the 50,000 dwt Stena Impero will sail on its maiden voyage with a cargo of vegetable oils from Asia to Europe.

Featuring a length of 183 metres and a beam of 32 metres, the MR tanker is the last in a series of 13 sister vessels ordered by the company at Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) in 2012 and represents an investment of SEK 4 billion (around USD 508 million).

“With the delivery of the Stena Impero, the IMOIIMAX fleet is now complete, in line with the order, and is a significant and competitive addition to our high-quality fleet. At the same time, it is an important step forward and a development of our existing sophisticated trading system,” Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk, said..

The company took delivery of the first vessel in the IMOIIMAX series exactly three years ago.

“Both the technical and the commercial concepts have proved to be very successful and have set a new standard for cargo efficiency and bunker consumption,” Hånell informed.
