Scotrenewables Tidal Power has started SR2000 sea trials at the Belfast Lough.

Over the next two weeks Scotrenewables will be undertaking sea trials of first commercial floating tidal turbine SR2000, according to Bangor Marina.

Following the conclusion of the trials, the turbine will be towed to the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney to commence a grid connected test programme.

The 550 tonne SR2000 tidal turbine consisting of a 64 m floating hull that incorporates two 1 MW rotors mounted on retractable legs was launched at Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast last week.
