Spanish LNG imports rise 36 pct in November

Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose by 36.2 percent in November on a yearly basis boosted by higher gas-to-power generation as demand increased by 11 percent.

LNG imports reached 18.86 terawatt hours (TWh) in November as compared to 13.85 TWh in the same month the year before, according to the data provided by the LNG terminal operator, Enagás.

Breaking down the LNG imports by countries, Peru was the biggest supplier to Spain and these volumes rose 14.4 percent on year to about 4.34 TWh.

The second and the third place belong to Nigeria and Qatar with supplies reaching 3.86 TWh and 3.63 TWh, respectfully.

Compared to the same month in 2016, Qatari volumes halved while Nigerian volumes remained almost the same, the data shows.

The rest of the November LNG imports to Spain came from Algeria, Norway, US, Trinidad and Angola.

The Barcelona and Huelva regasification plant received 7 LNG cargoes, each, out of the total 23 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.

The data shows that the Bilbao LNG terminal received 3 shipments while Cartagena, Sagunto and Mugardos took 2 cargoes, each.

The Mugardos facility also reloaded one small cargo of 24 GWh during November.
