South Korea Setting Up International Offshore Wind Research Center

Research & Development

EnBW Asia Pacific has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with South Korea’s Chonbuk National University to support the creation of an International Offshore Wind Research Center.

26 other institutions and companies are participating in this project including Korea Shipbuilding & Ocean Engineering Research Institute, Hyundai Global, JY Heavy Industries, among others.

The center will support the Seamangeum offshore wind farm project that is currently under development, EnBW said.

The Seamangeum offshore wind farm will comprise 28 turbines with an overall capacity of 99.2MW. Twenty four 3.5MW wind turbines will be installed near the Saemangeum seawall, with the remaining four having a capacity of 3 to 3.2MW.

The wind farm is being developed by Saemangeum Offshore Wind Power, a special purpose company established between KEPCO KPS and Mirae Asset.
