South Axholme Academy Students Learn about Offshore Wind

Human Capital

South Axholme Academy students were visited by the SMart Futures team last week to learn about offshore wind power and the company’s proposed Project Two at the Hornsea Zone.

SMart Wind held the event with two classes, helping students understand more about interconnecting offshore wind farms and how they can help contribute to the UK’s renewable energy targets through an engaging activity, where students built their own model wind turbines.

The focus of the event was to engage students in the Supergrid STEM (Science, Technology and Maths) activity and provide them with experience of how the STEM subjects can convert into careers, particularly in the Humber Estuary area which has seen large growth demand for jobs in engineering and renewable energy, in part due to the offshore wind projects proposed and being built in the North Sea.
