Sotenäs wave project to get new export cable

Operations & Maintenance

Fortum and Seabased Industry have agreed to replace an export cable at their Sotenäs demonstration wave power plant, located some 8 kilometers northwest of Smögen, Sweden.

The companies said that several insulation failures occurred during connection of the plant this summer, so a new cable has been purchased. They are currently in negotiations with marine contractors for the deployment of the new cable.

In May 2013, the initial export cable was laid and the first phase of the wave power park deployment started during March 2015. The first phase of the project comprises 36 wave energy convertors and one substation.

An underwater substation, the Low Voltage Marine Substation (LVMS), was installed late in 2014.
