Snohomish County PUD gives up license for tidal project

Authorities & Government

Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) has applied to US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to surrender the license for the Admiralty Inlet Pilot Tidal Project.

The unconstructed Admiralty Inlet Pilot Tidal Project works would consist of two 300 kW OpenHydro tidal turbines each mounted on a triangular subsea base, 2 km long connecting cables extending onshore, and onshore supporting facilities.

The project was to be located on the east side of Admiralty Inlet in Puget Sound, Washington. Snohomish County PUD said the reason for surrendering of the license is that the project is no longer economically feasible.

The license for the development of Admiralty Inlet Pilot Tidal Project was granted to Snohomish County PUD in March, 2014. However, the district announced it is discontinuing the project six month later, in September, 2014.
