Sixth AtoB@C plug-in hybrid ship hits the water

AtoB@C Shipping, a Sweden-based subsidiary of Finnish shipping company ESL Shipping, has launched its plug-in hybrid newbuild, Terramar, at India’s Chowgule shipyard.

Terramar is the sixth in a series of twelve 5,350 plug-in hybrid vessels AtoB@C Shipping ordered from Chowgule & Company, with one vessel to be delivered every quarter until the autumn of 2026.

So far, four vessels have been handed over to AtoB@C, including ElectramarStellamar, Ecomar, and Aquamar.

The fifth vessel, Maximar, was launched on September 5, 2024, and the outfitting of the vessel continues ahead of delivery later this year.

These vessels feature a gross tonnage of 4,200, a length of 90 meters, and a width of 16 meters.

Furthermore, they are designed with hybrid propulsion and shore power connectivity. With a deadweight tonnage of 5,350 and ice class certification, the vessels are fit for efficient and sustainable operations.

In addition, integrating battery technology allows for emission-free and quiet port visits, significantly decreasing CO2 emissions by nearly 50% compared to the current generation of vessels, according to the shipping company.
