As informed, the Ice Class 1A Evolution 8K series will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Dingheng. The ship quartet is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

“A lot of hard work has finally paid off and we are very excited. These vessels are an important step towards our vision – to become the long-term first choice, for our colleagues, customers, and for the society. The vessels will of course be built to Sirius standard and incorporate the latest technology for future compliance,” Jonas Backman, CEO of Sirius Shipping, commented.

The company said that the new vessels are an updated version of LNG-ready 7,999 dwt oil/chemical tankers Saturnus and Mercurius, with lower fuel consumption and low-emission technologies.

The Evolution 8K vessels will feature a length of 119.9 meters, a beam of 19.4 meters, and will have a capacity of 9,700 cbm.

What is more, they will be equipped with a hybrid battery of 420kWh and a shore power system of 1,000 kWh that will enable the units to emit zero emissions while loading and discharging in port.

“With Evolution 8K we’re taking another step forward in renewing Sirius fleet… These new vessels, designed by Sirius in collaboration with FKAB, will provide the highest levels of sustainability, efficiency and safety. The vessels are also designed for excellent working conditions and comfortable living quarters for our Crew,” the company said.

Last year, Sirius Shipping placed an order for two plus two methanol-ready 15,000 dwt tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Yangzhou.
