Siem Offshore opts for DNV GL's software solutionSiem Offshore has chosen DNV GL’s Synergi Project software to manage its nine newbuilding projects.

According to DNV GL, the software is used to optimize the collaboration between Siem Offshore and the yards and to keep control of building processes.

Siem Offshore’s large newbuilding programme, with nine offshore vessels currently under construction, has led the company to acquire Synergi Project software. Synergi Project, a solution for ship owners and shipyards, allows all involved parties to share completely up-to-date information for collaboration in ship design, ship building and aftermarket.

“We are very positive to our experience with the implementation of Synergi Project,” says Jonny Oluf Hansen, Project Manager Newbuilding at Siem Offshore.

Fleet of 46 ships

Siem Offshore serves the global oil and gas industry with a fleet of 46 ships.

The company was looking to replace many different individual systems for reporting and follow-up, some of which were in-house solutions or Excel sheets. A ship design project involves collaboration on a massive scale, including thousands of emails, comments, documents, revisions and approvals from owners, yards, designers, class societies and authorities. Sharing the information, having a common and current database, and monitoring follow-ups can be a constant challenge, DNV GL says.

When Siem Offshore decided to purchase a dedicated software solution, several systems were evaluated. “We decided that Synergi Project had been validated over long time use by other users. It also had all the functionality and requirements we were looking for. We’re still in the implementation phase, but everyone on site is positive to the new system. There’s a low threshold to start using Synergi Project,” says Hansen.

“We didn’t have to spend a lot of time in order to customize the software. We had training for the users, then it was just plug-and-play,” he says.

DNV GL says that by using Synergi Project, reports can easily be created, even directly onsite using mobile devices or tablets. All of the relevant information will automatically go into reports, and they will be sent immediately to the relevant people.
