South Korean shipbuilding giant, Samsung Heavy Industries developed its liquefied natural gas regasification system for floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

The S-Regas (GI) named system utilizes glycol to regasify LNG into gas, SHI said on Thursday, noting the system reduces the chance of corrosion from the traditional method of heating LNG directly with seawater.

In addition, SHI said the solution achieves a 5 percent energy saving, during its presentation of the system to 40 representatives from 19 shipowner companies including Golar LNG, GasLog and Höegh LNG.

During the presentation of the system, SHI representative noted that the in-house development of the LNG regasification system improves LNG-FSRU’s safety and performance, as well as improvement in schedule and quality management.
