Second Yamal LNG cargo on way to Dutch Gate terminal

The Gate terminal in the Dutch port of Rotterdam is expected to handle this week the second cargo from the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic.

To remind, Gate performed the first-ever transshipment of a cargo sourced from the Russian project in late December.

According to the vessel tracking data by the marine data provider, VesselsValue, the 172,600-cbm ice-class carrier Christophe de Margerie loaded a cargo at the Yamal facility last week and is expected to arrive at Gate on February 9.

Sovomflot’s Christophe de Margerie also delivered the first-ever Yamal LNG cargo to the UK’s Grain terminal in December.

It was not immediately clear whether the fuel Christophe de Margerie is carrying will be transshipped or it will end up in Gate’s tanks for further delivery.

The three-train Yamal LNG plant, designed to produce about 16.5 million tonnes per year, started liquefying and shipping the fuel in December. It is Russia’s second LNG export facility.

The ice-class tankers carrying volumes from Yamal LNG will regularly transfer cargoes at north-west European terminals during winter, where conventional vessels can pick them up for delivery to Asia or other higher-paying markets.
