Second 11,000 TEU SAVER Ship Joins Seaspan’s Fleet

Business & Finance

Hong Kong-based ship owner and manager Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of an 11,000 TEU containership, the MSC Shreya B.

The vessel, which was constructed at Hanjin Subic shipyard in the Phillippines, will commence a bareboat charter with Swiss carrier Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) for a period of seventeen years.

Upon completion of the bareboat charter period, MSC is obligated to purchase the vessel for a pre-determined amount, Seaspan informed.

MSC Shreya B is Seaspan’s second 11,000 TEU SAVER design containership in a series of five ships under bareboat charter to MSC. This is Seaspan’s third vessel delivery in 2017 and expands the company’s operating fleet to 87 vessels.

Seaspan took delivery of the first ship from the SAVER 11,000 TEU batch, the MSC Shuba B, in late August 2017. Upon delivery the Neopanamax started a seventeen-year fixed-rate bareboat charter with MSC.
