This project is expected to be the first bottom-fixed large-scale offshore wind power project in Japan funded 100% on a commercial basis, Marubeni Corporation, a parent company of Seajacks and one of the investors in the wind farm project, said.

This is the first contract in Japan for Seajacks who will commence offshore construction work with a wind farm installation vessel Seajacks Zaratan in Japan in 2021.

The 140MW Akita Noshiro project comprises two sites off Akita Port and Noshiro Port. In total, the two wind farms will feature 33 MHI Vesta V117-4.2 MW wind turbines installed on monopile foundations.

The monopile foundations will be manufactured and delivered by the Netherlands-based Sif Group.

The two wind farms are scheduled to be operational in 2022.

The Akita Noshiro project is being developed by a consortium led by Marubeni which also includes Obayashi Corporation, Tohoku Sustainable & Renewable Energy, Cosmo Eco Power, The Kansai Electric Power, Chubu Electric Power, The Akita Bank, Ohmori, Sawakigumi Corporation, Kyowa Oil, Katokensetsu, Kanpu, and Sankyo.

Kajima Corporation is the project’s EPCI contractor.
