Swedish Energy Agency has granted SEK 9 million ($1 million) for cable research project related to Waves4Power’s WaveEL wave energy project at Runde test site off Norway.

Nkt cables, Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut, and Chalmers University of Technology will conduct reliability testing on low voltage cables specially designed for marine energy parks during 2016, according to Waves4Power.

The aim is to develop reliable cables that can withstand the stress and movements throughout the life of marine energy parks.

The project is led by Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut, and it is expected to start immediately.

As reported earlier, Waves4Power is preparing its WaveEL wave energy device for deployment off Norway planned to take place early in 2016. The company has been granted a three-year permission at the Runde test site with the possibility of extending the lease.
