The Scottish Green Energy Awards, a renewable energy competition, has been launched with 13 categories designed to recognise the people and organisations contributing to the renewables sector in Scotland.

Now in its 12th year, the Scottish Green Energy Awards event attracts more than 1.250 people to Edinburgh each December.

Scottish Renewables Director of Marketing Jillian McKenna said the growth of the event has mirrored that of the fast-moving renewables industry.

McKenna said: “Scotland’s reputation as a green power hub is famous across the world, and the Scottish Green Energy Awards have reflected that prominence for more than a decade now.

“The event is our opportunity to reflect on and recognise the determination, innovation and creativity that has defined the growth of our industry and ensured 2014 was another record-breaking year for renewables output in Scotland.”

According to Scottish Renewables, renewables generated 49.8% of Scotland’s electricity consumption in 2014, making the sector Scotland’s largest source of power.

Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Energy Renewables, said: “These awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the passion and expertise in the renewables industry in Scotland and I would encourage as many people as possible to apply this year.”

The event, sponsored by EDF Energy Renewables, will be held on December 3, 2015, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

Nominations close at 5 pm on October 9 and can be made here.
