SCIGRIP to Showcase Its SG100 Series Methacrylate Adhesives at IBEX 2012

Providing boatbuilders and marine construction engineers with a bright white, UV-resistant two-part adhesive specifically formulated for marine applications, global adhesives supplier SCIGRIP is showcasing its SG100 Series methacrylate adhesives at the 2012 International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) in Louisville, KY.

The SG100 Series is part of SCIGRIP’s comprehensive offering of high-performance marine adhesive technologies,” explained Kirk Miller, SCIGRIP’s regional sales manager. “The newly reformulated SG100 Series delivers superior adhesion properties, while requiring minimal surface preparation for bonding a wide range of materials used in boatbuilding and marine applications.”

SG100 Series are two-part methacrylate adhesives designed for application at a 10:1 adhesive/activator mix ratio, and feature a choice of either 15- or 40-minute working times, with fixture times of less than 30 and 80 minutes, respectively. The non-yellowing, UV-resistant adhesives are ideal for marine applications, with non-sag handling characteristics to facilitate application on non-level surfaces. They can be used to bond composite materials (epoxies, polyesters, vinyl esters or gelcoats); metals (aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel and coated metal); or thermoplastics (ABS, acrylics, PVC/CPVC and styrenics) with a minimum of surface preparation to reduce labor costs and production cycle times.

Adhesion properties of SG100 Series adhesives include a tensile strength of 2,800 – 3,200 psi (19 – 22 MPa); lap shear strength of 2,000 – 2,400 psi (13 – 16 MPa); and tensile modulus of 65,000 – 80,000 psi (448 – 552 MPa), measured at 75°F/24°C.

SG100 Series adhesives are available in convenient dual-component 490 ml cartridges, and 5/50 gallon (19/189 liter) bulk containers for use with meter-mix dispensing equipment.
