Scana Offshore said on Thursday it would, as part of the deal with Yinson, upgrade the FPSO’s anchoring system to increase its capacity and monitor anchoring forces.

The main part of the job will be the delivery of hull engineering services and reinforcement of chain stoppers, as well as delivering key components and a complete monitoring system, Scana said, adding that the fabrication and integration work will be carried out at a yard to be nominated by Yinson.

“The modification of existing equipment will result in reduced costs and shorter delivery times, which is crucial due to the short yard stay,” Scana Offshore said, without providing financial details of the contract.

The FPSO will be deployed at the Anyala & Madu fields in Oil Mining Leases 83 & 85, offshore Nigeria, operated by the Nigerian oil company First E&P.

The primary term of the FPSO charter, is valid for seven years, with First E&P having options to extend.

The oil company will be able to extend the primary term by one extension period of 24 months and up to 6 further extension periods of 12 months. If all options are exercised the FPSO – to be renamed Abigail-Joseph – will stay busy with First E&P for 15 years.

The value of the charter, including all options, is $617 million. The FPSO is expected to start operations at the fields by the fourth quarter of 2019.
