Safer Seas 2013 to Be a Sobering Reminder

The National Transportation Safety Board has released “Safer Seas 2013: Lessons Learned From Marine Accident Investigations,” a compilation of accident investigations that were published in 2013, organized by vessel type with links to the more detailed accident reports.

The introductory message from Tracy Morrell NTSB Director, Office of Marine Safety says that the goal of the report was ”to determine the cause of each accident, and recommend ways to make marine transportation safer.”

Morrell continues on to say that ”as many of these accident reports demonstrate, constant vigilance is critical to improving safety. Of all the systems on board a vessel, a human being is the most complex, and perhaps the most difficult one to integrate into a system of safer transportation.”
