Sabella tests its largest tidal turbine at INSEAN

Research & Development

Sabella, a French based engineering firm in the field of marine energies, more specifically tidal turbines, is currently testing its largest D15 tidal turbine at INSEAN research institute.

This bi-directional turbine has the capacity of up to 2.5 MW at flow speeds of 4.0 m/s, and can be installed in marine or estuarine sites, according to Sabella.

The tests are being performed at Rome based research institute, INSEAN, which is part of Marine Renewables Infrastructure Network (MARINET).

MARINET is a network of research centres and organisations that are working together to accelerate the development of marine renewable energy technologies – wave, tidal and offshore wind. It is co-financed by the European Commission.

As announced earlier, Sabella has scheduled the deployment of its D10 tidal energy turbine for April, 2015.
