Resolute Marine may test wave technology off Camp Rilea

Research & Development

Resolute Marine Energy, a Boston-based wave energy developer, might test its wave energy technology off Camp Rilea, Oregon.

Camp Rilea is a training center for US armed forces, and according to The Daily Astorian, a local news publisher, Resolute Marine hopes to deploy two oscillating wave energy converters that would produce desalinated water in addition to electricity by summer 2017.

Bill Staby, Resolute Marine’s CEO, said the company aims for wave energy to power the desalination plant.

The testing at Camp Rilea would represent the last trials before the commercial deployments in Alaska and Africa, The Daily Astorian reports Staby as saying.

According to Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center (NNMREC), Camp Rilea provides ideal testing location for shallow and mid-depth wave energy converters. It is one of the Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC) testing sites.

PMEC is a collection of scaled laboratory, intermediate and full-scale open water facilities that serve wave, tidal current, and in-river testing in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.
