Ramboll contracted on Italian project combining offshore wind, floating solar and Power-to-X

Ramboll has been appointed to deliver advisory and technical support for the 600 MW Agnes Romagna offshore wind project, proposed to be built in the Italian sector of the Adriatic Sea and planned to integrate several other systems, including floating photovoltaic, battery storage and a hydrogen production plant.

Ramboll’s team will support the developer, Italian renewable energy company AGNES, throughout the authorization process which is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

For the proposed offshore energy hub, Ramboll will provide concept design during the initial design phase, as well as strategic advisory including the estimation of capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX).

Italian authorities received an application for the project back in 2021, when AGNES, together with Saipem and QINT’X, applied for a concession for a site in the Adriatic Sea, off the coast of Ravenna.

The Agnes Romagna Hub consists of two offshore wind farms, Romagna 1 and Romagna 2, with a total capacity of 600 MW.

Romagna 1 is proposed to be built 22 kilometers off the coast of Lido di Classe, spanning an area of ​​85 square kilometers, where 25 wind turbines with 8 MW of capacity each would be installed. The floating photovoltaic system with a power of 100 MWp would be installed next to the Romagna 1 wind farm.

Romagna 2 would have a capacity of 400 MW with up to 50 8 MW turbines spinning some 26 kilometers offshore Porto Corsini.

In addition to floating solar, the offshore energy hub is also planned to integrate a Power-to-Hydrogen plant and battery storage.

In 2022, AGNES contracted Rosetti Marino to prepare the conceptual design for the wind turbines. Under the contract, Rosetti Marino conducted an analysis of alternative foundation options for Agnes Romagna and provided input in terms of technical solutions to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and authorization process.
