Ukraine may in future receive liquefied natural gas supplies from Qatar via the Polish LNG terminal in Świnoujście, according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“We agreed that Qatar is ready to provide liquefied gas to us,” Poroshenko said on Monday during his official visit to Qatar.

He added that the supply of Qatari LNG would be possible through the LNG terminal in Poland, as well as on the Turkish route through the Bosphorus, a statement by the President’s press office said.

Ukraine has no LNG import facilities while Qatar is the world’s largest exporter of the fuel.

Poroshenko noted that the negotiations on the LNG supply would take place in the near future, the statement said.

He also stressed that “these sources of liquefied gas supply from a reliable partner of Ukraine – Qatar will create unique opportunities for improving our energy security.”
