Polish Offshore Wind Farms Clear Another Hurdle

Authorities & Government

MFW Bałtyk III Sp. z o.o., a joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia S.A., has secured an environmental decision for the offshore grid infrastructure connecting two offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 1440MW to the Polish national grid system.

The decision was issued by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection (RDOŚ) in Gdansk.

In May 2018, Polenergia and Equinor signed an agreement to jointly own and develop the two offshore wind projects in the Polish Baltic Sea – Polenergia Bałtyk II and Polenergia Bałtyk III.

The wind farms will be located in areas approximately 27km and 40km from the port of Łeba in water depths of 20-40m.

Polenergia Bałtyk III is expected to deliver first power in 2025, with Polenergia Bałtyk II following in 2027.
