Business & Finance

A 114 meters long Culzean wellhead platform jacket has reached its destination and it’s now fixed to the seabed by 12 skirt piles driven 45 meters deep, Maersk Oil informed on Wednesday.

The jacket left the Heerema’s Vlissingen yard mid-April set for the Central North Sea some 250 kilometres east of Aberdeen in license block 22/25a.

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has also been given a task to build jackets for both the central processing facilities platform and the utility & living quarter platform, which along with wellhead platform will be part of Culzean field. The platforms will be linked via two bridges approximately 100 metres in length.

The Culzean field was discovered in 2008. The water depth is approximately 88 metres and the reservoir is located around 4,300 metres below sea level.

First gas is currently expected in 2019, with potential to meet around 5 per cent of UK gas consumption 2020/21, Maersk Oil said.
