PHOTO: Kraken FPSO en route to North Sea

Malaysia’s FPSO provider Bumi Armada has shared a photo of the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit meant for the Kraken field development beginning its journey from Singapore to its North Sea location. The caption is convenient: “Release the Kraken!”

According to Bumi Armada, the harsh-environment Armada Kraken FPSO began its journey towards the EnQuest-operated Kraken field in the UK sector of the North Sea on Wednesday, November 23.

To remind, the FPSO left Keppel Offshore & Marine’s Singapore shipyard in October and headed to deepwater anchorage to undertake commissioning work.

EnQuest said last Monday that the journey to the North Sea should take approximately 50 days and that it should be completed around mid-January 2017. The Kraken development project remains on course to deliver first oil in the first half of 2017.

Kraken field is a large heavy oil accumulation, located in the East Shetland basin, estimated to contain approximately 140 million barrels of gross oil reserves.

The Kraken FPSO vessel is able to handle a peak fluid rate of 460,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 80,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), 275,000 bpd of water injection, 20 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of gas handling and has a storage capacity of 600,000 barrels.
