PGS wraps up seismic survey in Porcupine Basin for Woodside

Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) has completed the Bréanann 3D seismic acquisition program, in the northern Porcupine Basin offshore Ireland, for the Australian energy company Woodside. 

Around 1,400km2 of the Bréanann seismic survey is directly over or around FEL 3/14. Woodside is the operator of licenses FEL 3/14 and FEL 4/14 in the Irish Atlantic and Petrel Resources is its partner with 15% carried interest.

The program was completed over c. 2,392km2 of the northern Porcupine Basin, 150km west off the Kerry coast, south-western Ireland. Water depth of the survey was 500m to 1,300m.

The 3D seismic started at the end of June and it was acquired over 40 days. Woodside hired PGS as a contractor in May who then used its Ramform Vanguard survey vessel.

According to Petrel’s statement on Monday, processing of the (Pre-Stacked Depth Migration) seismic data is now underway at the DownUnder GeoSolutions (DUG) operation in Australia.

The company said it expects early results in January, with interpretation complete by mid-2017.

Petrel noted that this work is intended to de-risk the identified primary targets of Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous age, which may lead to one or more well commitments in the phase 2017 through 2021.

Regarding its Ghanian acreage, Petrel said on Monday that, after its recent acceptance in principle of the revised Tano Basin acreage, the partnership now moves into negotiations of the license terms.
