Petronas grants tech license for new wellhead platform designs

Enra Icon has been granted a licence for novel technology by Petronas for its small field development, minimal facilities wellhead platform designs under the standardized work and equipment categories (SWEC) code.

Enra Icon is a joint venture between Malaysian oil & gas services provider Enra and Australia’s oilfield service company Icon Engineering.

Icon said on Monday that the JV would now be able to provide conceptual engineering design, FEED, detailed design, and offshore facilities engineering services directly to Petronas.

“The Offshore Novel Facilities Licence is defined as a new or an unconventional technology, which encompasses the standardized rig installed wellhead platforms and Icon’s expertise in carrying out the installation of these minimal facilities, and other variations such as monopods and minnow-pods, using the rig-installed method,” said Icon.

The company added that Enra Icon would combine Enra’s local topside engineering support and fabrication for the minimal facilities developments with Icon’s proprietary technology.

According to Icon, the JV’s innovative solutions reduce the total costs of shallow water field developments by utilizing the designs of standardized rig-installable wellhead platforms (SRIP), mini MOPU relocatable processing platform, and rig-installable annex wellhead platforms.

Icon also said its SRIP design range for wellhead platforms provides significant reductions in EPCIC cost by adopting standardization, and reductions in offshore installation cost by including the option to use suction piled foundations.
