Petrogas has chartered a Maersk Drilling offshore rig for an appraisal well in the UK North Sea.

The Danish offshore drilling company said Monday that the contract with Petrogas was for an appraisal well at the Birgitta field in the Central part of the UK North Sea.

Maersk Drilling said that the rig for the job has yet to be assigned, but that it would be a harsh environment jack-up drilling rig.

The contract is scheduled to start in March 2020. It is expected to take 70 days for the drilling operations. According to Maersk Drilling, Petrogas will have a 20-day extension option.

This is Maersk’s second jack-up rig contract announced in a short space of time. Maersk Drilling on Friday said that Wintershall Noordzee had executed an option to have the Maersk Resolve jack-up drill one additional well at the Sillimanite field in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.
