Petrobras said on Tuesday that it has recently drilled a new 9-BUZ-48D-RJS well at a water depth of 1,850 meters in its deepwater Búzios field in the Santos Basin and has confirmed oil of excellent quality.

The discovery was confirmed through tests at a depth of 5,540 meters. According to the Brazilian company, this latest finding reinforces the potential of the pre-salt in Búzios field.

The Búzios field is located 188 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro and Petrobras is the operator with a 90 per cent interest. The remaining stake is held by Chinese producers CNOOC and CNODC, both with a 5 per cent interest.

Earlier this year, Petrobras also made two new oil discoveries in Brazilian offshore waters.

The company in May 2020 confirmed oil of excellent quality in the Southeast area of the Búzios field and greater potential in the pre-salt of the Albacora field.
