Petrobras P-58 FPSO starts oil production

Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras has announced that its P-58 FPSO began producing oil on Monday, March 17.

The floating production storage and offloading unit is moored  in the Parque das Baleias (Whale Park) field in the Campos basin offshore Brazil. The FPSO can process 180,000 barrels of oil daily as well as six million cubic meters of natural gas from pre and post-salt reservoirs.

In its press release issued yesterday, Petrobras said that first oil began flowing from the 7-BFR-7-ESS well, “which recorded excellent productivity levels, as expected”. The oil will be pumped into tankers, and natural gas sent by pipeline to the Cacimbas Gas Treatment Unit, in Linhares, Espírito Santo.

The launching ceremony for the P-58 took place at Honório Bicalho Shipyard on November 8, last year in the presence of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, and the Petrobras CEO, Maria das Graças Silva Foster. The unit was involved in an incident last year when it collided with another FPSO in the shipyard.
