Petrobras hires two vessels from Farstad

Farstad Shipping, the Norwegian provider of offshore service vessels for the oil and gas industry, has landed charter contracts for two of its vessels in Brazil. 

Both vessels were hired by the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petróleo Brasileiro, more commonly known as Petrobras.

The first contract is a four-year one for Farstad’s platform supply vessel (PSV) Far Strider. The 82-meter vessel is scheduled to start working in April 2016. PSV Far Strider is a 4,709 DWT built in 1999 by Kvaerner Govan, Glasgow.

The second contract the Norwegian company received is for the anchor handling tug and supply vessel (AHTS) BOS Turquesa.

The 2007-built AHTS was awarded a one-year contract with a further one year option.

Karl-Johan Bakken, CEO of Farstad Shipping ASA commented the contracts: “This is positive for the company, and a confirmation that we are succeeding in a demanding market.”

Earlier in January, Farstad Shipping sold two of its PSV vessels as part of what it said to be “part of the company’s strategy for the further fleet development”.

Farstad Shipping’s fleet consists of 59 vessels and 1 subsea vessel under construction. Of those 59, 30 are AHTS vessels, 23 are PSVs, while 6 are subsea vessels.
