The operation was carried out by the LNG bunker vessel Levante LNG.

According to Peninsula, the delivery highlights Gibraltar and its Port Authority’s ambition in making its port a “key” hub for LNG bunkering in the Mediterranean.

Nacho de Miguel, Peninsula’s Head of Sustainability and Alternative Fuels, stated: “The LNG powered vessel order book is looking very healthy over the coming years. This further validates our decision to develop LNG bunkering solutions in the early stages of the marine fuel transition.”

Using the Levante vessel, in February 2024, Peninsula delivered LNG to MSC Virginia containership, owned by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.

On November 4, 2023, the company also delivered LNG to Royal Caribbean’s cruise vessel Silver Nova, and on November 29-30, 2023, to Suezmax crude oil tanker Starway, owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS).

Commenting on the Starway bunkering operation, Nacho de Miguel said at the time: “Through our investment in assets like the Levante LNG, we can close the supply chain loop to give these vessels access to lower-carbon fuels in the world’s leading ports.”
