One Killed, Three Taken Hostage in Pirate Attack off Nigeria

One crew member was killed and three taken hostage in a pirate attack on a Greek-owned tanker pending unloading off Nigeria late Tuesday, the Hellenic Coast Guard informed.

The killed sailor was Greek and was the vessel’s deputy captain, whereas the missing three crew members are reported to be two Greeks and one Pakistani national.

The Maltese-flagged Kalamos, carrying 23 crew members onboard, was attacked at Qua Iboe, a sea area between Cameroon and Nigeria, the Coast Guard added.

The rest of the crew are reported to be safe.

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Shipping informed that they have taken the necessary steps to rescue hostages and investigate the incident.

According to the Coast Guard information, the M / T  Kalamos  is securely moored.

The 281,000 DWT M/T Kalamos is owned by the Kalamos Shipping Corporation and managed by Aeolos Management.
