Ofcom Grants Code Powers in UK to Sea Fibre Networks

Sea Fibre Networks (SFN), owner and operator of Europe’s most advanced sub-sea telecoms network, CeltixConnect, announced that the UK Communications regulator, Ofcom has granted SFN Code powers enabling it to roll out fibre-based networks in the UK. This important milestone allows SFN to connect its sub-sea network to multiple UK terrestrial providers, at a much faster rate, demonstrating its commitment to carrier neutrality.

In 2012, SFN completed construction of the Staffordshire Gateway, an unrivalled interconnection point made possible by constructing a high fibre count terrestrial network from Balterley to Halmer End. Code powers facilitate SFN when delivering critical networks, like the Staffordshire Gateway, ensuring customers’ bespoke requirements are met. SFN can now maintain its network with the quickest response time adding another dimension to its proactive Operations and Maintenance Programme.

Tom McMahon, Sea Fibre Networks’ CTO said: “Code powers makes SFN better placed to quickly deploy alternative networks and interconnection points to ensure customer requirements such as lead times, diversity and network length are met.”
