Odfjell Orders Four Stainless Steel Chemical Tankers

Business & Finance

Norwegian Odfjell has officially signed contracts for the construction of a series of four chemical tankers with stainless steel cargo tanks at China Shipbuilding Trading and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

Featuring 49,000 dwt and a cargo capacity of 54,600 cbm, these vessels are said to be the world’s largest stainless steel chemical tankers.

The first newbuilding is expected to be delivered in June 2019 and the following vessels would join their owner with 3-month intervals.

Odfjell said that the capital commitments will be USD 60 million per vessel.

“We are very happy with the agreement we have signed today, which is a significant step in solving our tonnage replacement needs,” Kristian Mørch, CEO Odfjell SE, said.

“The vessels will be the most efficient stainless steel chemical tankers available,” he added.
