Seatricity has informed that the Oceanus 2 wave energy device trial is going well as the device has demonstrated its capacity to self-start without the need for priming.

The commissioning process of Oceanus 2 at Wave Hub test site continues with sensor calibration and beginnig of deliberate trial process, according to Seatricity.

The device has been installed at Wave Hub test site on May 18. Falmouth-based wave energy developer has stated that the access to the device would be limited in the following days, due to scheduled works at Wave Hub test site.

“Our progress with more detailed trials will however need to fit in with cable laying operations at Wave Hub so our ability to visit the device regularly to observe progress at first hand and manually adjust valve, calibrate flow rate sensors and alter other settings will be limited for a couple of weeks. First steps will therefore be to slacken the main tether by lowering the pump in order to conduct static pressure tests – to ensure that the system can maintain internal pressures at sea without undue leakage,” Seatricity said.

As reported earlier, Wave Hub is planning to install four 33 kV rated cable tail extensions from the current dry mate connectors to the four developer berths for wave energy device testing.

James Fisher Marine Services has been hired to conduct the installation works at the site.
