NS: Students get to feel the FORCE

Several students across Nova Scotia will get a chance to work in the ocean-related energy industries through the Energy Training Program for Students.

Twenty post-secondary students will work in the energy sector with 18 employers taking part in the program, including JASCO Applied Sciences Canada, GeoSpectrum Technologies, and the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) from the ocean energy sector.

Michel Samson, Nova Scotia Energy Minister, said: “Nova Scotia’s offshore and tidal industries offer excellent opportunities for economic and employment growth in Nova Scotia. It’s terrific to see young Nova Scotians have a real chance to start building careers here in innovative energy-related fields.”

The program provides eligible employers with a 50% subsidy toward a student’s salary during a 12 to 17 week employment with the organization, with work terms starting from May to August.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity, as it enables me to be mentored by industry professionals in all aspects of design, construction, deployment and processing of oceanographic data,” said Carmen Lawrence, an ocean technology student at Nova Scotia Community College.
