NOVELTIS rolls out free tidal assessment tool

Business & Finance

French-based company NOVELTIS has launched a free worldwide decision support tool dubbed TidEA that helps identify the most appropriate sites for tidal energy project development.

TidEA is intended for general public and the relevant stakeholders of the maritime and marine renewable energy sector as a decision support system for tidal energy projects.

The tool is able to identify the most well-known sites to develop tidal energy project, and provides the characterization of tidal energy resource for each of these areas of interest with relevant indicators such as bathymetry, maximum current speed, and tidal power density.

These indicators have been calculated from high resolution tidal model and validated with in situ and satellite altimetry data, according to NOVELTIS.

Tidal atlases used to compute the different indicators provided in the TidEA application have been validated using data procured by Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS), including altimetry and in-situ data through tide gauges network, NOVELTIS said.

NOVELTIS is a private French company based on Toulouse which develops innovative scientific engineering studies and implements customized services for end-users in oil & gas, marine renewables and transport sectors.
