Nova to Develop Subsea Connector for WES; Breaks Crowdfunding Target

Business & Finance

Scottish tidal energy company Nova Innovation has won a contract to develop an innovative subsea electrical connector for Wave Energy Scotland (WES).

Nova’s MECMate subsea connector is tailored to meet the requirements of the marine energy environment.

Nova Innovation engineering director, Gary Connor, said: “Our vision is for this subsea electrical connector to be used by clients in marine energy, offshore wind, oil & gas, and aquaculture.

“As a marine energy developer ourselves, we know the critical importance and value of developing a robust and cost-effective solution for the maritime economy.”

Nova’s new wet-mate connector will enable marine devices to be installed quickly in a wide range of sea conditions. It builds on Nova’s dry-mate connector, used in all three of Nova’s turbines in the Shetland Tidal Array.

This contract award follows the company shooting past its crowdfunding investment target and increasing the amount of equity to enable more investors to join its mission of generating sustainable energy from our seas.
